My very first tour has started. This is a photo from the green room last Saturday in Bristol. A sold out (extra!!) show, which is just amazing. I sat in the green room doing a crossword puzzle and eating chicken and sundried tomato pasta which I brought from home and put in a thermos because I'm a 75-year old in the body of a 35-year old.

I'm truly like baffled by it - I mean, this is only my first tour and I thought it was going to be a struggle selling tickets, but it's been overwhelmingly amazing. Okay, so I absolutely love this bit of stand-up. It all came from me talking about a bikini wax I'd gotten at a gig. I had happened to be on my period at the time, which I never think of embarrassing or gross as a thing to say. Of course a man in the audience disagreed and actually loudly exclaimed: UGH.
It got me thinking about why anyone would care that I mention it and why it's considered such a no-no. I got more and more worked up and ended up writing this routine. I'm very proud of it.

Much like my love for 80s tropes like montage scene, I am also an ABSOLUTE SUCKER for a good will they/won't they. Ross and Rachel is of course the first one that jumps to mind, but there are sooooo many good ones. I don't know if I'm a huge romantic in real life, but in my fiction I absolutely gobble it up.
Here's my interpretation of the trope, again this was before you were allowed to do more than 15 seconds, which I'm kind of proud of how much we got in there.

When I was a kid, I was absolutely obsessed with 80s movies. I loved all the John Hughes stuff, I loved Dirty Dancing and When Harry Met Sally (admittedly that feels more like a 90s movie, but it was 1989!)
A staple of these movies was of course a montage scene, so it was with great love for the originals that I made this poking fun at the concept.

This joke was based on a conversation I had with my younger sister who had told me that she advised someone to get a haircut. I, now having lived in the UK for quite some time, heard that and thought: you can't say that?!
Of course, that is completely inappropriate in the UK, but could potentially be fine in the Netherlands. I now always use it as an example whenever I talk to people about the Dutch being rude. And to be very clear!!! Dutch people think you're being rude by not just saying what you think!! It's cultural guys!! You are weird to US!
