I had happened to be on my period at the time, which I never think of embarrassing or gross as a thing to say. Of course a man in the audience disagreed and actually loudly exclaimed: UGH.
It got me thinking about why anyone would care that I mention it and why it's considered such a no-no. I got more and more worked up and ended up writing this routine. I'm very proud of it.
