Wine grapes are the most labor intensive agricultural product on the planet. A vine is touched by a human around 20 times in a growing season, carefully training it and tending to it, from budbreak to harvest to ensure that the grapes will be high quality and expressive of their terrior. Many people think it’s the touch of the human hand that elevates a wine, and despite the promise of mechanization, grapegrowing will forever continue its tradition of hand labor. A labor of love. 🍇

Red, the color of passion, energy, and excitement is bold, vibrant, and often associated with strong emotions like love or anger. Over the years I’ve learned to really lean into red when doing interior design. When used properly it is a powerful tool to create a focal point or add a burst of energy to a room. I use it sparingly as an accent color to make a space feel lively, passionate, and warm. However, too much red can get overwhelming, so balance is key! Tell me, how much red do you think is appropriate? 🔥

Maintaining biodiversity in a vineyard is a big focus for many producers as it improves the soil health, reduces pest pressure and even contributes to the unique flavors of the grapes. Techniques like cover cropping, establishing hedgerows, minimal mowing and reducing chemical use help boost biodiversity in vineyards which in turn creates healthier vines that grow more expressive grapes.
My love for the connection between vineyards, wine and nature often make their way into the interior spaces I design and decorate. 🍷🦋

Opus One. This prestigious Napa Bordeaux style blend is a hot collaboration between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild. It’s a rare occasion I get to drink this wine, and wow it never disappoints. 🍷

This is a very fancy barrel room at Krupp Brothers, in Napa Valley. At Krupp, they typically barrel age their Cabernets for 18-24 months in new French oak to soften the tannins and enhance the complexity of the wine. The best winemakers know how to use oak as a subtle tool, too much and the wine is ruined. This is the stage when flavors like delicious vanilla, carmel and spice get integrated into the characteristics of the fruit. I can relate- sugar and spice and everything nice 😉

Picked at their peak, wine grapes often take 5-7 months from budbreak to harvest to reach desired ripeness. Good things come to those who wait!

Winter in the vineyard is beautiful in its own way.
After harvest, and as temperatures start to drop the vines begin to store carbohydrates in their trunk as energy reserves to help them break bud the following spring.
Once the leaves have fallen off, the vines go into a state of deep dormancy, which helps protect against winter damage from extreme temperatures.
This is a critical time in the vineyard, allowing the vines a chance to rest from the busy growing season and prepare for the upcoming vintage.
It’s almost as if time stops for a brief moment.

Inside arguably the most famous wine cave of all. Few will ever step foot into this hidden gem, but your girl is connected.
Domaine Romanee Conti- definitely the best Pinot noir I’ve ever tasted & certainly worth the hype.
If you’re feeling generous, my favorite wine from DRC is from their La Tache vineyard and I really love the 2014
vintage from Burgundy 😘
