Estes method: Cold case file
The Estes Method is a technique used in ghost hunting and paranormal research, developed by Karl Pfeiffer, Connor Randall, and Michelle Tate at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. It’s a variation of the Spirit Box session aimed at enhancing focus and reducing potential bias.
Here’s how it works:
1.Spirit Box: A Spirit Box, which rapidly scans radio frequencies to pick up snippets of words or sounds, is used to try to capture spirit voices or responses. These sounds are believed by some to be manipulated by spirits to communicate.
2.Noise-Isolation Headphones: One participant (the “receiver”) wears noise-canceling headphones connected to the Spirit Box. This person won’t be able to hear or respond to anyone else in the room, as they’re only able to hear the raw sounds from the Spirit Box.
3.Blindfold: To heighten the receiver’s focus and eliminate visual distractions, they usually wear a blindfold.
4.Questions: Another investigator, separate from the receiver, asks questions out loud, hoping that spirits will respond through the Spirit Box. Since the receiver can’t hear the questions, any response they repeat is thought to be untainted by expectation or suggestion, which can add a layer of objectivity.
The Estes Method aims to reduce bias by preventing the receiver from knowing what’s being asked, making any relevant answers feel more significant and potentially validating the idea of spirit communication. This method has gained popularity in ghost hunting for its unique approach and ability to produce compelling, sometimes startling results.

The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California, is a beautiful mansion built by Sarah Winchester, widow of the firearms magnate William Winchester. Constructed between 1886 and 1922, the house is famous for its bizarre design, with staircases leading to nowhere, doors opening into walls, and over 160 rooms. Sarah believed she was haunted by the spirits of those unalived by Winchester rifles, and she continuously built onto the house to confuse the ghosts. Visitors and staff often report ghostly sightings, strange noises, and cold spots, adding to the mansion’s eerie reputation.
Blindfolded on the staircase of Goldfield school house.
The Goldfield Schoolhouse, built in the early 1900s in Goldfield, Nevada, was once a center of education in the thriving mining town. As the town’s fortunes declined, the school was abandoned, leaving behind a sense of eerie desolation. Over the years, the building has gained a reputation for being haunted. Visitors report seeing shadowy figures, hearing disembodied voices, and feeling an unsettling presence in the old classrooms. Some claim the spirits of former students and teachers still linger, making the Goldfield Schoolhouse a hotspot for paranormal activity.

2024-10-25 01:49:17 +0000 UTC View PostThe Menger Hotel in San Antonio, built in 1859, is famous for both its history and its hauntings. Guests and staff frequently report eerie encounters, with the most famous ghost being Sallie White, a chambermaid who was unalived by her husband and is said to still roam the halls in her 1800s uniform. Other spirits include a Confederate soldier seen in the hotel’s old bar and a woman in Victorian dress standing near the lobby. The hotel’s close proximity to the Alamo adds to its haunted reputation, with some believing that spirits from the battle also linger within its walls.
2024-10-25 01:48:12 +0000 UTC View PostThe Thousand Steps in Spokane are more than just a crumbling staircase—they’re a gateway to something unsettling. Built in the early 1900s, these stone steps have long been abandoned, overtaken by shadows and silence. Locals whisper about the ghosts that wander here, eerie figures seen in the dim light, and strange, disembodied voices that echo through the night. The air feels heavy, as if the past clings to the stones, waiting for someone to stumble upon its secrets. Walking the steps alone, you can’t shake the feeling that something—or someone—is watching.
