I've played hundreds of hours of Pokemon Crystal, and I think it holds up super well today. I kind of fell off the Pokemon wagon after that second generation until Pokemon Go came out, and I enjoyed the shit out of that when it came out too. There was this group of nerds in my neighborhood that would meet up and go raiding all the time lol. It was quite the sight to see like 20 nerds wandering around staring at their phones, but I think it was actually so cool that a game brought so many people together
