For overall leg development, yes, free weight is better, but if you wish to take alot of the pressure off your knees, and work more the glutes, the Smith is the way to go. Being that its fixed and much balance isn’t needed it allows you to position your stance in a way impossible by free weights. By placing our feet out in front of us we’re taking alot of quad work out thus activating and recruiting more of the glutes and hams. Slow in steady, nothing extreme in weight. It shows the Queen repping 135lbs, but did end up at 225lbs, or 2 plates per side. King worked up to 405 and stayed with form and concentration instead of going super heavy.
