I made a mistake. I didn’t fulfill a promise to some of you who read through and commented on a post a few months back. It might not seem like a big deal now, but it’s been really bothering me. After some digging, I believe I’ve discovered the crux of why I feel so disturbed and ashamed. It’s a tale as old as time, the fear of not being good enough.
I value communication, above most anything. And when I’m not doing well, or feeling insecure, I tend to avoid it. Sound familiar?
I think we all could benefit from asking or reminding others of things that were promised to them. Trust me, it’s hard for me to do it too. I’d often rather avoid it and sweep it under the rug. But what good does that do? It builds resentments, eats away at trust and creates dissonance. I’ve been burned and taken advantage of by not asking and pretending not to care. No one should have to go through that, and I certainly never want anyone to feel like I’m taking advantage of them either.
So, here is my promise. I promise to act with integrity if/when you gently ask or remind me of something promised to you. Something like: “Hey, I read through and loved your post and I can’t wait to see what this special thing is”, or “Hey, I think I won something and I’m just curious to know more about that” 🙏🏼 It’s a practice, and we’re all growing and I just want to show up as best I can.
On that note, I am aware that some of you won items from NYE and I apologize for being so slow to fulfill these packages! I have not forgotten. Also SSR, if you’re reading this… 😜
