A bit of reasoning with a friend of mine, “Is thinking a chemical process?” I think: Thinking is like the ultimate chemical cocktail that your brain concocts. Imagine that neurons are bartenders, and neurotransmitters are the drinks they happily mix in response to your question, “How do I solve this problem?” Dopamine, for example, puts a little liquor of joy in there so that, if you suddenly manage to solve the problem, you'll feel like a superhero.
Serotonin, on the other hand, works as an anti-stress shot, trying to avoid making you feel agitated. And glutamate is that secret ingredient that gives your brain a “jumpstart” for new ideas, because without it, there's no creativity or inspiration.
What do you think?
