A lot of people don't realize it but they both have an incredibly tight ass, while at the same time having an increasingly weaker glutes from sitting all the time. How could it be both? All 3 glute muscle, maximus/major, medius, and minor, aid with hip extension. Additionally the smaller/interior glute medius and minor function in the external rotation of the leg and forward tilt of the hips respectively. Since big guy like us sit almost all day, the glutes major gets weak and the smaller muscles need to over compensate and externally rotate your legs when you stand/extend your hips. If you notice your toes pointing outward when standing, this is exactly what has happened. Hip thrust help strengthen the glute major and helps correct the imbalance caused by the over worked Glute medius and minor. As the Glute major becomes stronger, the 3 glute muscles can become better balanced and reduce the anterior tilt of your hips (from sitting and having a massive gut hanging off the front of you😜😈) With better pelvic posture you will find much less strain and pain in your lower back. Start of with doing 4 sets of 8 reps to build up that glute strength, as that becomes easier either add weight or increase reps (up to 20) in order to increase intensity
