Post-Practice Selfie. After the week we all endured and my teaching schedule starting up again, I made sure that I set aside some time today to put on my jock and roll out my mat. Self-care isn’t selfish. It is necessary in order to cope with the speed of life these days. If you don’t currently have a Yoga or meditation practice and cannot go to the gym right now because of the pandemic, go for a walk, or a hike. If you live someplace warm, swim. Or just march up and down the stairs in your house a dozen times a day. Be present as you are doing whatever you are doing. Connect your mind with your body. Allow yourself to be with the sensations, especially the uncomfortable ones. Feel the ache or the burn in your muscles. Know that it will not kill you so don’t distract yourself from it. And notice how by really noticing these feelings of discomfort with curiosity instead of fear, these sensations actually start to dissipate, and you begin to expand the outer boundaries of what you consider your edge. Self-care is how we continue to grow and evolve even when the world around us sometimes seems to be going in the opposite direction.✌️
