The phrase “coming out” is one we’ve all heard. We know what it means. But have we stopped to consider that the process of coming out is just one part of the process; it is actually part two of the process. Part one is “coming in.” In part one we turn inward and begin to understand who we are. And once we have gained some insight (and courage), we progress to part two; coming out. Coming out is for gay people. Coming in is for everyone. But as gay people we are already deep into coming in when we come out. It is the reason we come out. So in a very significant way we are very lucky to be gay; it forces us to come in. It forces us to know ourself. And as human beings, knowing thyself, is our most important work.✌️
