When we move through the world adopting the basic spiritual attitude of wonder, we overcome the negative emotions of judgement and dualistic evaluation. Wonder is a complex (but not complicated) set of ideas, attitudes and feelings. It is an experience of joy, appreciation, and awe. It is also an experience of curiosity and of beauty. One of the first significant wonder moments in a gay man’s life is the realization: “I am gay.” There is a whole flood of emotions and ideas that accompany this realization. It’s scary to realize you are part of a minority of the human race, unlike most people (probably including your parents), and saddled with sensibilities some of those other people find confusing and sometimes, repugnant. With maturity that wonder changes from fear to jubilation as you realize what advantages your homosexual orientation offers you- among them , the heightened capability of experiencing wonder and joy at the beauty of creation. According to stereotype, we are more sensitive, insightful, and aware of beauty, rhythm, symmetry, and harmony. We know how to dance! We make good artists, poets, peacemakers, and decorators! We create beauty!
