I remember when I first came out at 20 it felt like I was now part of a brotherhood I hadn’t previously known existed; like a secret society that felt like family. Because of who we are within the current state of politics, our futures and fortunes are tied to one another; to our community of brothers and sisters; to every other minority struggling to live their best life in a time of misinformation, hate, and fear. By virtue of our identity we become part of an abstract, but very powerful collective. This bond is a spiritual connection with other “others.” It is very much like the Buddhist concept of Sangha, or community of those who want to grow and evolve. We are the future and it scares the hell out of those more comfortable living in the past. We will prevail because at this point in history far too many hearts and minds have already been opened to go backward. We just have to stick together and support one another. It is that simple, and that challenging.✌️
