Changing the Tire
Life is moving very fast, and will continue to pick up speed. This is the nature of time. Challenges and obstacles are coming at us with more and more frequency. Anyone else notice this?
How do we navigate these obstacles without getting frustrated and thus, less effective in finding solutions? The parable of “Changing the Tire” gives us the answer.
When you get a flat tire you can react in one of two ways; you can get pissed off that this happened to you, angrily cursing the universe while thrashing around in your trunk for the jack and spare. In your rage you will probably hit your head on the trunk door, drop the jack on your foot, and get grease on your pants. And all of this will cause even more frustration.
Or you can just change the tire.
If you deal with problems one by one, calmly and with focus, as they come up, not resisting the reality of the situation or taking it personally, then we can overcome each obstacle with much greater ease and skill.
The most effective way to change things in our outer world is to change how we see them in our inner world. This applies to everything from healing our relationships, to developing healthier personal habits, to changing a flat tire.💙
