did you know…in ancient rome, the new year was celebrated on march first, and the celebration was called the "kalends."
the Kalends was a time of renewal and new beginnings, and people would exchange gifts and make resolutions for the coming year. the celebration was later moved to january first by the Roman emperor julius caesar, who introduced the julian calendar in 45 bce.
this calendar, which was based on the solar year, became the most widely used calendar in the world and is still in use today.
