To all the cynics out there: Valentines is NOT a hallmark holiday created to make money. It's the feast day in honour of St Valentine, a 3rd century saint who was executed because he was performing Christian marriages, which were illegal at the time. His day was popularized by Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century and came to represent courtly love and nobles began exchanging cards with the phrase "from your Valentine." So not only did St Valentine stand up for love and marriage, but his day has been celebrated as a day of love since the 14th century! So if one more person tells me they don't celebrate Valentines because its capitalist holiday, I'll scream. Oh and St Valentine is the patron saint of epilepsy and beekeepers.
