Added 2020-11-06 06:12:25 +0000 UTCIt’s kind of hard to believe, but lunch with Sanja today was the first time that I’ve seen her since Jessica’s Halloween party. We’ve talked and texted a lot since then, but we’ve both been too busy to get together. Today ended up working out perfectly for us both. My schedule was light and we met at one of my favorite places, Nico Osteria in the Gold Coast neighborhood. Sanja was waiting for me with an old fashioned sitting on my side of the table, which I knew meant trouble for the afternoon. We hugged, and I laughed when I sat down. She lifted her glass and toasted to democracy in her silky accent. Then almost the instant she finished, she began apologizing profusely for the events at Jessica’s two Saturdays ago. I assured her once again that she has absolutely nothing to be sorry about. Raef is obviously the culpable one, and things could definitely have been worse. At least it was Jessica. If it’d been her husband or one of the other guests, it would have been a complete disaster. Plus, I clearly bear some of the responsibility. Letting Raef take me to Jessica’s guest room to blow him was not one of my better decisions. When the cute waiter dropped off our second round, Sanja told me that she’s having dinner tomorrow with her husband. Apparently, he’s actually open to reconciling. Sanja’a pretty certain that his biggest motivation is to avoid a huge divorce settlement, but she doesn’t care. She doesn’t want to be divorced. I asked her what getting back together with her husband would mean for her relationship with Raef. She said that she’d obviously be moving back in with her husband, but that she has absolutely no intention to stop sleeping with him altogether. If her husband wants to avoid losing half his net worth, then that’s going to be the trade off. Then she told me how much Raef hates sleeping alone. “Hope you’re prepared to fill in for me one or two nights a week,” she said with a huge grin as she signaled another round of drinks to our waiter.
